Genetics and Evolution review/practice quiz (no credit)

 You should be able to

**  identify subcellular structures such as the following on a sketch, or to sketch a cell showing sub-cellular structures
**  match each structure with its function, or to describe each structure's function

The quiz is usually given with instructions to match the a list of structures to a labeled sketch, and to the listed (letter) functions, but may require students to draw the cell sketch itself.

A typical list is the following, but any organelle or subcellular structure is fair game:

structures
functions
centriole

A. carbohydrate & lipid biosynthesis

Golgi apparatus or body
B. control material moving in & out of cell
smooth endoplasmic reticulum C. site of protein synthesis
basal body D. organization of microtubules in cilia & flagella
lysosome E. site of DNA synthesis and storage
plasma membrane F. cellular motility
rough endoplasmic reticulum G. intracellular digestion
nucleus H. use of oxygen to generate energetically useful molecules
mitochondrion K. DNA synthesis
ribosome M. synthesis of proteins for export

N. RNA synthesis

O. site of ribosome synthesis

P. organization of microtubules in mitotic & meiotic spindle

R. modification of proteins for export

note that not all functions have matches in the quiz as presented
**  students should, naturally, know the names & morphology matching the other functions as well
