“Portfolio” - Nucleic Acids
DNA Structure and
Function
For all components of the “portfolio” assignment series:
• hand drawing is required
• any explanations longer than a sentence must be
typed
• labeling and math may be neatly handwritten,
preferably in block print
• everything must be neat and legible
• drawings should be sufficiently large and spread
out that all components are easily distinguished and sufficient detail
is included
• nothing may be cut and pasted from hard copy
sources or electronic sources
XVI. Nucleic Acid Structure and Function
A. Draw double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) in which the first strand is
T-A-G-C
due 22nd class session [12/01/11]
B. Draw the RNA which would be transcribed from that
DNA.
due 22nd class session [12/01/11]
C. Draw replication; include (minimally)
due 23rd
class session [12/03/11]
• leading and lagging strand
• primer
• the several different proteins involved, showing
what they do; include (minimally)
• 2 topoisomerases
• 2 DNA polymerases
• primase
• ssDNAbp
• ligase
• label each component of the system clearly
